Otis Long lives in the northern edge of Flagstaff, Arizona. He has become quite content with his bachelorhood, his isolation, and his job as an editor of science magazine articles. He hasn't had a women in his life for over five years. Separate events on the same evening bring to him the attention of two women. One is a woman who knows she is about to become a widow. The other woman is a professor of astronomy who was recently fired by Northern Arizona University. Otis steps into both their worlds while knowing the most important secret of his life has the potential to ruin things with both of them.
